COUNTRY RACING CLUBS PROPOSALS DROPPED!. When tile question of the propos l ed amalgamation of country racing clubs was mentioned at the New Zealand Oountry Racing Clubs’ Association, Wellington, last evening, there appeared to be a tacit understanding that the matter* should be dropped. A discussion arose from letters from the various clubs affected, and the president (Mr W. Jewell) said he understood that the suggestions were not serious, and nothing further would be done in this direction. The idea, he thought, was to create a number of extra permits as a result of amalgamation. Some of these would be of a floating nature, and would be utilised by clubs which experienced difficulties through wet weather and other circumstances. Mr W. A. Lyon (Woodville) : Would these not go to the centres ?' The president: I take it the oountry clubs will receive consideration. The conference decided to pledge its support to any country clubs which might require assistance, with the object of preserving their identity. It was later decided to institute negotiations with a view to amalgamation with the Auckland Country Racing Clubs’ Association, members contending that the interests of the two bodies, were almost parallel.
