THE CRUISER BRISBANE
IN CHINESE WATERS.

In the House of Representatives, Mr Bruce, replying to a question regarding the warship Brisbane m Chinese waters, said that in communications with British Government the principle of exchange n affected the Brisbane ,vas clearly defined. Mo reiterated that the exchange cruiser was under the command of the Admiral in charge of the station to which the cruiser was attached. The Admiral had authority t<> use exchange cruiser in the same way as he would use vessels belonging to his own squadron. That authority extended to the necessity for safeguarding the lives and properly of Bri’. si sub ■■ 's. If any fu-tho action were contemplated, the Admiral had to obtain authority from the British or Australian Govor'nii'cnt uis the ease may he. The Ministry had not taken steps to recall tlie Brisbane.
