The weather was perfect, the court good and the attendance was laTge to-day. Patterson and Hawkes beat Washburn and Ttilden 6—3 7—5. Hawkes’ playing was fine, and his placing very accurate. Tilden’s service direction was very telling. Patterson was much below form, but made a great rally an the sixth game in the first sdt. Tilden’s base line drives were very severe, and his hack hand drives were a special feature of the game. Tiklou beat O’Hara Wood H —6. 6 —2. Tilde.n started serving poorly, hut Wood’s half court line strokes were splendid, Tilden making beautiful cross court strokes, and his volley service was extra severe. Wood was outclassed in the second set only winning the fourth and fifth games. Johnston beat Brookes 3—6, 6—l, id—4. The strategy of Brooke’s game gained him some advantage in _ the first set, but Johnston’s, long driving across the court to the side lines kept Brookes busy to hold his strength in the remainder of the game. Brookes made beautiful attempts, hut Ins strokes lacked force. N.S. WALES VISITS"WANGANUI. "Wanganui, Last Night. The New South "Wales representative tennis players met a combined! Wanganui and Taranaki team in brilliant weather. The local team put up a good fight, and won two rubbers out of twelve played being defeated by 26 sets to 6, and 150 games to 106. M. L. Lampe, of "Wanganui, heat S. H. Henderson in the singles 6—4, 5 —7, 6—2, and "Wallace nn<T Dickie, of Waverlev, beat Marsh ami Watt in the doubles, 6 —4, 6—3. The other rubbers were won by New South "Wales, and the most spectacular contest of the day was when Peach find hers defeated Wallace and Dickie, T 6 7—5, 10—8, after a great con■ifcest.
