TILDEN'S MASCOT

Asked how his victory was achieved, Tilden told a ‘‘Daily Telegraph” interviewer that he wanderedi round Auckland and discovered “a green, racquet,” and after that he knew everything would be all right. Suspending his explanation for the time being, Tilden puzzled the pressman, who besieged the American for particulars of the ‘‘green racquet.” Tilden eventually explained that it was only an inch and a half long—a little New Zealand greenstone miniature and a charming mascot. Brookes, Patterson,, O’Hara Wood, and Heath have been selected to oppose the Americans at Melbourne.
