DRIED MILK.

CTo the Editor). Sir I have read with very great interest the different reports on the dried milk question, and if the reports are reliable, which in the case of the delegates to America from the Waikato Dairy Companies, 1 see no reason to doubt, the manufacture of dried milk powder seems to me a very desirable proposition to aim for. With the splendid roads throughout this district, there should not be much diffumlt'y in dealing with the the milk from the vanous receiving stations to a main factory : but, first, a central site would have to bo decided on, which must be near a railway station, with a large supply of milk to be drawn upon from a medium radius, and I think that would apply to Mangamutu far better than to any other place in the Pnhiatua district. We ought not to consider the pull of this or that set of men, but go for the best site for the business, Tor if the enterprise is to cost £30,000 or more, it means that there must be a large supply to make it successful, an dthat suggests that the existing dairy companies all over the district wouid need to form a Companies Cooperative Association. 1 have also read Mr A. McFarlane’s letter in last Wednesday’s issue, and am glad to see that the Konini Committee intend to put proposals before a meeting of dairymen to be calk'd presently. ■Rut. Sir, while waiting for those proposals, T would suggest that the din'ctors of the various dairy companies. at their annual meetings—which will soon be called—invite a discussion of the matter by their shareholders, and. if thought fit. appoint delegates to attend the meeting when called by the Konini Committee. The proposals of the Com-mitts-e could then be discussed from each company's point of view and a b. :ter result obtained than would be po-sible with an unlimited attendance. My name not being of any public interest, must be my excuse to Mr Brechin for not complying with his request in this instance. Thanking you for valuable space.— I am. etc., “BALL AN CF.” B.dlance. .Tune 27. 1919.
