RETURNED SOLDIERS.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR SOCIAL. SUGGESTED CLUB ROOM A meeting of returned soldiers was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Thursday night to make arrangements for the annual social and dance. The proceedings were divided into two portions, the second half of which was turned into a general meeting of the public to discuss a resolution dealing with the proceed.--In connection with the dance, Mr L. G. Wood was elected chairman, and Mr N. Judd. hon. secretary. The following were also appointed to the Committee for the social: V L. A. Burberry, W. L. Beaufort, W. T. Chaffo. C. M. St<wart, C. E. Groves, P. Ryan. A. Miller, H. Godfrey. W. Humphries. W. Trescott, W. Mabey. J. Farrell, C. Mabey, R. Elliott, T. Hunt. W. J. Ryan, A. Martin, J. Mulcahy. B. J. Hay, F. de Malmanche. R. Hull, E. Holdaway, E. Payne. E. Fowler and L. Crawford Watson, with power to add. It was decided, on the motion of Mr L. A. Burberry that the social should be run on the same line-. and with the same prices as in the previous year, gentlemen 3s 6d. ladies a decorated basket containing refreshments or 2s. It was proposed that the ball he held in the Drill Hall on July 17th ,an dthat the Ladies' Patriotic Committee be approached with i% request to run the supper. A sub-committee was set up, consisting of the chairman and secretary and Messrs Johansen. Groves. Beaufort, Burberry and Crawford. Watson to make certain necessary arrangements and to report to a meeting on July 2nd. This concluded the first portion of the evening and the meeting was then thrown open to the public Mr Crawford-Watson proposed a resolution that tlie proceeds of the dance be ear-marked for the nucleus of a fund to establish a soldiers’ club room. Speeches were made by Messrs Mc-Sht-rry, P. Thomson, Moriarty and several returned and as various proposals were brought forward it was decided to form those present into a provisional committee so that various proposal, could lie heard in committee.
