The judgment in the Socotra inquiry states that the loss of the vessel was due to the master's neglect to take adequate steps to ascertain and verify the position of the vessel, and.not making allowances for tides and currents or an intelligent use of the soundings. The captain, however. had a good record, and his certificate was suspended for six months.
