EKETAHUNA COUNTY COUNCIL.
VARIOUS MATTERS
The EketahuiiH County Council met a few days ago. An application was read from, E. Willoooks, stating that while workng ’at Watenfalls he had two homes to maintain and he found present wages insufficient. He asked lor an increase. Eventually on the motion of Cr. Paijchett, seconded by Cr. Darlington it was decided that while in charge of the stone-crusher at Waterfalls, Willcocks he paid 12> a dav.
From the District Engineer, that Mangatainoka River protection work had not been carried out akoeordine; to arranged speclications, and asking that the work be completed according to plans before application for final payment (£92 having been made as a progress payment,—Held over. A letfer was read from, the Noxious Weeds Department, notice to eradicate noxious weeds. Cr. Patcbett said at Pahiatua a Government inspector went round and saw that the work was done. It was stated the position in -regard to gorse was not clear and the clerk promised to look the matter up. Cr. Patchett thought it was not within the Council’s jurisdiction to spend money on a matter over which they had no .control. Cr. Connor, for the committee, reperted interviewing settlers at Hamua re river erosion. An allocation of £SO from Hamua and £SO from Hukanui was agreed on, and collectors were out.. He had Inxm advised that the £SO was assured in Hamua, but had not heard from Hukanui. The lists would be in next week. It was agreed that it was necessary to erect two small groynes. Tin* engin<*er said tfa.-i under the Government’s original proposals impossible conditions were specified, it was decided that the clerk obtain specifications from the District Engineer regarding the work so that the Council might decide whether it would be advisable to carry otit the work under Government plans or proceed with the work on its own.
