THEFT OP A LETTER

The Magistrate (Mr L. G. Reid) presided over a sitting of the Court at Pahiatua to-day.

A youth named Charles Edward Walker, aged 17 years, pleaded guilty to the theft of a letter, the property of Mrs Stanley Morris, of Ballanoe. The offence .as outlined by Constable Burrell, was that Walker whilst driving a baker’s cart had taken the letter from a- bread box outside Mr Olson’s residence. The letter was brought by Mr Olson from the Post Office when returning from the factory. The lad denied taking the letter at first, but subsequently admitted the offence. The Magistrate admonished the for his behaviour, but us his employer was willing to give him another chance, he would also give him a chance. He convicted him, and ordered him to come up Tor sentence when culled upon. He cautioned tl<r lad that if he i'arri»d on in this strain he would have a big chance of ending up in gaol.

J. H. Richardson claimed £3 3s from E. Spicer. The defendant was ordered to pay the amount, on or before M arch 10th, in default- seven days’ imprisonment. George Early & Co. chimed C.‘f7 3s Id from J. Thomas. The defendant was ordered to mat?* payment at the Hate of £5 a month, the first payment-to be made on January 28th. J. G. Chambers was orderedl to pay Henry E. Gibbs the sum of £9 fls in monthly payments of 10s, the first- payment- to be made on March Sth. CIVIL CASE. Judgment by default- was given in the -ivil case. A. Pringle v. Gixirge F. Keen claim £l. costs os. Al AINTEN A NCE CASE.
