MEETING OF EXECUTIVE.

A meeting of the Queen Carnival Exiefciutive was held last Friday, February 4tli. Present: Mr R. B. Robertson (in the chair), Mrs Malmanche, Messrs F. Herbert, A. Picket, C. R. Burling, E Headlam, Hr. Wilkin and the secretaries. Mr R. 13. Robertson consented to attend the Conference at Wellington, on February 17th. Mr E. Headlam, of Rakaunui, asked rthether Queen Committees had been given Art Union tickets for monies paid in. The treasurer stated that no Art Union tickets had been issued to Committees.

Mr C. R. Burling suggested that at least one representative from each Committee be present at the drawing of the Art,Unions. The method of drawing was discussed, and it was decided, on the motion of Mrs Malmanehe, that the butts be folded

and twisted 1 , put in a sheet and mixed up, and tickets to bo drawn by a little

girl to be called upon to draw the tickets.

Hr. Wilkins suggested that the folding and drawing be carried out by the Executive. Mr S. Gibson withdrew a proposal that butts be accepted up till the 7th. An amendment was moved by Mr R. M. Robertson, that butts be accepted till noon on Friday, 11th, to allow of all tickets sold to participate in the drawing, that no more tickets be sold in the meantime, that the date of the drawing be altered to Friday, 11th inst., at 8 p.m., and no votes to be registered for tickets received after the 11th. This was agreed to.

Mr E. Headlam moved, that the Treasurer be instructed to receive no cash or cheques on polling day except in sealed envelopes, and that no such envelopes be opened until after the closing of the poll, and in the presence of the district scrutineers. The mot ion was discussed atsome length. Some held that if the motion were carried the whole spirit of competition would be lost. On being put to the meeting the pro-posal-was lost. It was carried on the motion of Mr R. M. Robertson, that the number of votes of each candidate be made known a week before the closing of the poll, and at intervals of three hours from noon on polling day till within an hour of the closing of the poll, thiui at intervals of 15 minutes until within a quarter of an hour, ami then continuosly. the poll to close at 9 p.m. The executive is to meet at 4 p.m. on Friday, 11th, to prepare for the drawing. The following is the position of the candidates this week:— Mis s A. Burling 1 Miss L. Burling 2 Miss H. Holdem 3 Mi.ss E. Crawford 4 Mis s I). Leighton 5 The Carnival funds are coining in freely, and efforts are being made to reach the five thousand mark.
