Using The Periscope. THE “Evening Post” gives an interesting account of the training the men in camp get in the use of the Periscope. Comrades representing the enemy, are sent out and told to conceal thetmselves. They axe then instructed to advance on the defended trenches. They come slowly on. taking advantage of whatever cover is available, and it is the duty of the man with the periscope, himself below the parapet of the trench, to discover the “enemy” at the earliest possible moment. Men of the 9th have shown themselves to be remarkably quick at this class of work. This points to the value of keen eyesight. If your evesight is not as keen as it might t>e, better go along to Oxley and let him examine your eves. GEO. OXLEY, OPTICIAN, PAHIATUA
