MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

MAINTENANCE ORDER. The Magistrate (Mr L. G. Reid) presided over the sitting of the Pahiatua Court today. A young man named James Niool, at present living in the Main Trunk district, who did not appear was charged with disobeying a. maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child. The arrears were stated to be £lB 10s. The Magistrate told the complainant that she should r.ot let the arrears get so far behind and should have taken action before, ns it would be difficult for defendant to pay off such a. largo amount. An order was made for payment of £3 off the arrears within one month, in default one month’s imprisonment. SCUFFLE IN A FISH SHOP. David Falconer, who failed to appear, was charged with wilfully damaging a pane of glass, value £5, the property of August Donge. Falconer was also charged with assaulting John Bargwehai. Mr G. Harold Smith, on behalf of defendant, entered a plea of guilty, explaining that Falconer had had a few drinks, and gone into the fish-shop, where he had a scuffle with tlie proprietor Falconer had subsequently made good the damage to tli<' window, and had boon under the impression since that the case had hoen settled.
