CONFIRMATION SERVICE. His Lordship, the Bishop of Wellington, the Right Rev. Dr. Sprott, who arrved in Pahiatua on Saturday, had a busy day on Sunday, being the preacher at all the services at St. Peter’s Church, and also conducted a service at Tane in the afternoon. In addition he attended the celebration of the Holy Communion at 7 a.m. Tile Rev. L. H. Fenn (vicar of Pahiatua) was the celebrant and there j were close on thirty communicants. At the 11 o’clock service the Bishop discoursed on the text “Casting all your Care upon Him,” and at Tane, the school-room being crowded, he dealt with the subject of Enoch walking with God. At the evening service there was a very large congregation, extra seating accommodation having to be provided. A confirmation service was conducted by the Bishop, being the “laying on of hands of those that are baptised and come to years of discretion.” There were sixteen candidates, including three males. The Bishop, in the course of a splendid address, said ! that baptism told them what they are, and confirmation showed them I the kind of life they ought to live. He emphasised various exhortations contained in the Second Epistle of Paul to the Phillippians, beseeching the candidates to emulate Chirst in spirit., motive, disposition and temperament, to be obedient, to render whole-hearted service, and to aiwavs , bear an uncomprising antagonism towards all forces of evil.
