DISTRICT NEWS.
A football match between Pongaroa and Alf red ton, for the Heckler Cup, took place in Alfredton on Saturday last, end resulted in a win for the home team by six points to nil. The children of the Saunders road school gave a social and dance in aid of the schools’ ambulance fund. As a result of their efforts, the children will be able to hand £7 or £8 to the fund. A general meeting of the Eketohuna. Defence Rifle Club was liejd this week. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Major Prendeville; president, Mr S. Marenzi; vice-president, Mr \Y. Olson; committee, Messrs J. Leslie,' A. Fredericksen, J. O. Suckling, G. Jes_ son and V. Aulin; delegates to conference, Messrs Marenzi, Olsen and Sturton; secretary, Mr J. V. Sturton; auditor, Mr J. F. Sullivan. The annual subscription was fixed at ss. It was decided to hold drill on every Thursday evening, and to hold shooting practice once a month—on Thursdays. /
