Holman announced that the Government would not curtail its British importations on account of the war. British shipping was not menaced and there was no reason to curtail Australian business. A number of firms holding farmers’ declined to fill orders at the price fixed by the Commission as below the the clients’ demands. Important Government action is anticipated to-day, in connection with large stocks of wheat held in Sydney. I Melbourne, Last Night. Giving evidence before the Commodities’ Commission, prominent wheat buyers said the general opinion was that the price fixed in Sydney was absurd. The local wheat market is paralysed, sellers refusing 4s lOd.
