Tho Terawhiti Estate, for many years farmed by the late Mr James MeMenamen, was bought yesterday by Mr \V. S. Wheeler, of Wellington, for £30,800. The property consists of 0585 acres of sheepraising gild pastoral land, with homestead and farm buildings, 6000 sheep, 2240 lambs, and 34 head of cattle.

At Dunedin yesterday Stephen Harrington, aged 19 years, a son of 51 r Stephen Harrington, a farmer at Shiel Hill, near Anderson's Bay, committed suicide. Deceased went on a milk round in the morning, and had dinner with his father. At 4 p.m. -the younger brother returned from school and found deceased hanging in an outhouse. 'Hie annual social of the Konini Hall Society was held in the Konini Hall last evening. There was a good attendance, and the floor being in good order for dancing, a. very enjoyable evening was spent. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs W. Britland, the .Misses E. Warren, E. Bissott and G. Rose, and Messrs F. Kelly and B. Walden. The M.C. was Mr T. Ycrry. An abundant supply of refreshments was provided by the ladies of Konini. The hall funds will be considerably augmented by the proceeds of the gathering. At the quarterly meeting of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce yesterday the president, Air R. Hill Fisher, commenting on the establishment of another bank in the Dominion, remarked that in view of the largo increase in tho business of the country it was to bo regretted that additional banking facilities should not be afforded by enterprise of Now Zealand capitalists. It was announced that the conference of delegates from the South Island Chambers, and the Grain and Produce Association, convened by the Canterbury Cliuruber, would be bold on December 12th to consider the question of Australasian reciprocity.

The Eketabuna cattlo fair will be held to-morrow. Six hundred heed of cattle have been entered. The Pahiatua County Council yesterday passed a motion condoling with the family of the late Mr Khoehyn, of Ekotahuna, in their bereavement. Mr Sheehyn, who died a fortnight ago, was a memk-r of the Kkotahuua County Council. A testimony to the expeditious manner in which the busmens of the hist monthly meeting of the Pahiatua County Council was put through waa given yesterday by Mr J. D. Piper, who stated that when he arrived oh the scene just before lunch ho found that the meeting had concluded. He believed that for despatch of busines* the meeting was a record. The meeting on that occasion was presided over by Mr S. Bolton.
