(From Oil]' Own Correspondent.) On Monday M r Escott addressed a large and representative gathering in the 'Public Hall. He gave an able and interesting address. At the conclusion a vote of thanks and confidence was carried on the motion ol Mr Little, seconded by Ml* Stangor. The much-talked-of contest for County Council honours took place bn Wednesday, and the polling was very heavy. The sitting members, Messrs Little and McPherson, were again returned, the numbers being: Mr McPherson 55, Mr Little 53, Mr Lynch 44. Mr Stewart gave an address on Thursday evening on the “Failures anil Fallacies of Prohibition,” but owing to the rough weather there was only a small audience.
