FIRE AT TIRATU SAWMILL.
Electric Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, This Day. The Tiratu Sawmilling Company's planing mill was totally destroyed uy fire'' at 4.45 a.m. The building was ablaze from end to end, when the alarm was given, but the brigade was successful in saving the new gas suction plant installed yesterday at a cost of £llOO. The manager and staff were on premises till 11 o’clock last night, watching a trial run of the new plant, and when they left everything was apparently safe. They have no idea as to the origin of the fire. The stock ad machinery was insured for £SOO in the London and Lancashire, and £SOO in the Queensland office, and the building for £750 in the United office. The estimated loss is not yet ascertainable.
