PERSONAL.
The Hon. W W. MoCardle, M.L.C., was in Pahiatua yesterday. Miss C. Rendle has been appointed pupil teacher at Woodville. The Rev. T. Porritt, of Wellington, arrived in Pahiatua yesterday. Mr T. E Taylor will probably deliver an address at Pahiatua on nolicense at an early date.
Air Henry Burling, of Waikanae, and who is well known in the Pongaioa district, celebrated his 110th birthday on Monday. The death occurred yesterday at liis residence at Longburn, of Air Edvards Joshua Riddiford, one of the oldest and best-known settlers in the Wellington province. An account of -Mr Riddiford’s life will be found on page 3. At a meeting of the Pahiatua Fire Brigade last night, votes of thanks were accorded to Mrs Grinlinton and Airs Clifton for providing refreshments for the firemen after the recent tire in Alangatainoka. street. Air H. J. Eves who has been promoted from the Woodlands school to the head mastership of the Tikokino school, was presented with a writing • •ase and fountain pen prior to his departure from Woodlands. Air I>. Hughes made the presentation on behalf of the parents of the children attending the Woodlands school, and
vashed Mr and Afrs Eves every happiness in their new home.
Air G J. E. Bickford manager of the Dannevirke branch of the Bank of New Zealand, is leaving shortly on a. list to England. Mr Bickford has been a resident of that, town for some sixteen vears and during that time ne has been more or less intimately associated with all public movements for the advancer'ent of the district and the progress of the town, and advantage will lie taken of the occasion to make him a presentation.
