The half-yearly installation of officers of the Druids Lodge took placo in the Foresters’ Hall last night, when there was a good attendance of members. Alorris and Jacques; 1.G., Bro W. Hull; 0.G., Bro W. Yule; Treasurer, Bro J. Trezise; secretary, Bro D. Wilton. Three new members were also initiated. At the close of the installation ceremony supper was partaken of, and the remainder of the evening was spent in harmony. The Palmerston branch of the Woodlands Hunt Club held their meet this week on Wednesday afternoon, when an excellent run took place over country in Jackeytown, on the Foxton road. There was a large party of folaowers including several ladies, who evinced a keen interest in the sport. The Alanawatu Standard compliments the club upon having a really good official in Mr Russell, the huntsman, adding that his horsemansnip is pcifeot, as is also the condition of the hounds and the control that lie has over them. The hunt on Wednesday was led by Messrs A and J. Buiek', both parties entering into the sport with real enthusiasm, ami fulfilling their duties admirably. The huntsman was not lacking in this respect, nor was his night-hand man, Mr Buchanan, who acted as whip. Air J. A. Mitchell, as master of the field, fulfilled his duties in a most tactful manner, assisting the hunters when necessary, and giving a. word of encouragement to those who were riding hosres not too capable. At the close of the hunt Air Mitchell announced that it was the intention, of the committee to give a trophy at the end of the season to the horsemen for a race between horses owned by members of the hunt. Votes of thanks were accorded property owners and also to donors of .the afternoon tea, Messrs Mitchell, J. L. and B. Buick. The next hunt in this district will take place at Hamuia to-morrow afternoon.
