BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.
(To the Editor. i Sir.— In reporting the recent debate here on the above subject and the discussion at our last School Committee meeting, your correspondent (unintentionally, of course) omitted t mention niv chief argument on each occasion. namely: ‘‘That it is not lair on our part to force our opinions 'formed on an experience preceded hv religions | instruction) on to our children, but ! that we should give them the same opportunity of acquiring the knowledge in their youth and leave them to form their own opinions when old enough, and that the school is the proper 1 place for such instruction by competent teachers, as very few parents have the gift for teaching even if they . have the will.” With reference to the ‘‘Bible-in-Schools League" circuj lar. I considered we were asked for an opinion as a committee, and not asked to commit a breach of the Education J Act. and as a committee we had a right to our opinion, and in our case an absolute right, and we were the only householders present at the meeting for the election of committee. Ido not wish to institute a discussion on the above subject, but to fill in the omission of your correspm- ] dent. Yours, etc.. JOHN H. P. ALLEN. Pongaroa. July 28. 1907.
