SPORTING NOTES.

(By “Sefton.’’) Tlie hurdle race tor L's aside between Mr F. Fulcher's Waitoa and .M. 'Leu" Naylor's Moleskin over a distance ot a mile and a halt, six hurdle’s. came off yesterday afternoon on the Pahiatua. racecourse, before a large cjrowd ot spectators. Waitoa was the better favourite and justified the confidence reposed in him by winning somewhat easily. It was an interesting race until about half a mile from home ; after that it was all over bar sintering. Both horses jumped splendidly. "Billy” Naylor rode the winner, while Ills brother “Letl” bad the mount on Moleskin. Later in the afternoon Air Weston’s King John (\\ . Naylor) and F. Williams’ Wainei (F. Hollis) had a trial guild]). Both horses were in excellent “lopping” form, and finished the two rounds of the course, nothw ithstanding the heavy going, in first-class time. I am pleased to hear that it is the intention of the stewards of the Pahiatua Racing Club to have the lower portion of the course drained. They are also to he commended tor the action they have taken in regard to the grandstand, ns the weather was undoubtedly playing ducks and drakes with the fine structure.
