The New Zealand Gun Club Association’s annual £IOO liandicaji pigeon match for the championship of New Zealand was fired to-day, at Spring Creek, and was won by Mr. Duncan Fraser, of Canterbury, with twenty birds. The second and third prize money was divided between T. Parker, of Hawke’s Bay, H. J. Redwood and F. Redwood, of Marlborough. Westport, May 31. The Westport Harbour Board have received advice that several large shipping companies in London are now prepared to enter into tin foreign trade and urging them to provide early the facilities for handling large tonnage. The Board has received authority to extend tlie eastern breakwater as recommended by the Board’s engineer, with a view to increasing the depth of water on the bar. Wellington, May 31. A fire broke out in No. 3 hold of the Moeraki lying at the wharf shortly after noon to-day. The outbreak occurred among the tow and hops, anti is now (2.30 p.m.) practically extinguished. The damage is not expected to be great. Wellington. June 1. At the annual meeting of the Newtown licensing committee to-day all the licenses were renewed. There were no applications tor extension of closing hours. Ten o’clock closing will therefore continue. The Te Aute Trust Commission resumed its sittings to-day. The examination of Mr. Hogben, InspectorGeneral of Schools, was continued. io urged that distinctly technical education should be given at Te Aute. Auckland, May 31. The Chamber of Commerce, at a special meeting, resolved that there should be an Auckland court at the New Zealand Exhibition, assuring the Waikato and other country districts would co-operate in a combined provincial court
