Air. R. Smith (Paliiatua) moved and Air. Alexander (AJakomako) seconded: That the Government be pointed out the advisability of placing one of the Government veterinary surgeons in the Bush district, it being one of the largest dairying districts in the colony.

Air. Alauson instanced other centres where veterinary surgeons were established, and contended that Pahiatuu was left out in the cold. Ho supported the motion. Air. Alathieson said he would not agree to the motion unless it was a colonial affair, and lie moved as an amendment. That the Government oe asked to make no appointments as stock inspectors except where the candidates had passed such examination in veterinary subjects as Air. Giiruth recommended. Air. AlcFarlane seconded Air. Alathieson s amendment which was carried. AIORTGAGE INDEMNITY' TAX. Air. Aloore (Makuri) moved and Air. Tansey (, -Mangaweka) seconded : That the .Mortgage Indemnity Tax is irritating and unnecessary, and the Government be asked to amend the taw so that those who insure their workers once against accidents are not compelled to pay a double tax.—Carried. Aloore said what they wanted was that the law should be such that the farmers should be able to employ men on their farms at general labour without running any risks. covered all tarni work with the exception of tree-telling in virgin bush and blasting. Mr. Richards said what was wanted was a policy that would cover not only the ordinary farm employee, but also casual labour. Mr. Guthrie said the question oi accident insurance should Ue referred with the Mortgage and Indemnity Tax to the sub-committee appointed to deal with such matters, which will make recommendations concerning the subjects referred to it. Mr. Guthrie's suggestion was adopted. PRICE BY WEIGHT.
