CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

The quarterly meeting of the Paliiatua Chamber of Commerce was Held on Monday night in the Bank ot New Zealand chambers. QUARTERLY REPORT.

The President (Mr. \V. To&suill) presided, and submitted tbe following report:— Exhibition.—Several meetings have been held in connection with having the district represented at tlie exhibition. At a meeting held in the Borough Council it was decided to join in with the Wairarapa in having a court for the combined \\ airarapa and Bush districts, subject to the local bodies making a proportionate grant. The local bodies in the Pahiatuai district responded in a mo-; generous manner. The ..Pahiatua Borough Council voted £3O and the Pahiatua County Council the same amount. Mr. Horton also offered £lO. Otlier private subscription*, would have been obtained, Mr. Norrell having offered £2 2s. The lot-I bodies in the Wairarapa. how. ver, did not respond in a similar manner, and it seems that the whole matter has fallen through. It is a pity that nothing can be done, as it i- ot the utmost benefit to this district to hare it advertised more than has been done in the past. Technical School. A committee .ms appointed at a public meeting Held in connection with the starting ot a technical school in Pahiatua. and a suggestion has been made that the technical school should pay for puit ot the new site for school buildings and thus assist in financing the matter. A deputation proceeds to Wellington on Wednesday next to interview the Education Board in connection with education matters generally in this district, when the question of starting a technical school will be laid before the hoard.

Goods-shed and Telephone at Station.—This matter has received every consideration from the council, and the member tor the district. Wo hope to lie able to report tavourable results in the near future.

Lignite. A sub-committee ot the council was appointed to go out and inspect a lied ot lignite that had t »-en found on Mr. Eisings property at Makomako. The committee appointed has inspected the ground, and a sample of this lignite is now oil view. The question ot prospecting the ground will he considered at this meeting. Agricultural Show.
