ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, May 29. A settler named Mehaffy, ot Moturoa. New Plymouth, sustained serious injuries through being knocked down bv a tramcar in Syiuonds-sti eet today. He got off an up-car and immediately started across the road to a neighbouring hotel carrying a portmanteau. He walked) straight in front of a down car, which hit him. flinging him to the side of the road. He sustained a fracture of both legs below the knee, a compound fracture of the left arm, and several scalp wounds. He lies in a serious condition in the hospital.
