Tbe Federal Government has decided not to eDtertain the Orient Company’s tender for the mail service. It is probable an attempt will be made to keep up a weekly service by paying a poundage rate. Hobart, November 5.
The first and second prizes in the five shillings sweep went to Biermau, of Grey Lynn, Auckland, and Darcy, of Orepuki, respectively. Sixteen cases of diphtheria occurred during tbe voyage of the Corinthio from London. Two deaths occurred immediately prior to the vessel’s arrival.
