PARLIAMENTARY.
At the afternoon sittingof the House yesterday amendments to the Midwives’ Bill were brought down by Governor’s message. They allowed another yi ar in which mid wives now practising may be registered; also empowered the Governor to make regulations respecting the use of drugs by midwives and defining what shall be deemed to be malpractices by midwives. —The amendments were agreed to. The Extension of Commerce Committee reported that it could not recommend an increase of duty on imported woollen material. The Committee also recommended that further investigation into the state of the tobaoco industry would be made next session. At the evening shtmg the second reading of the Land for Settlement Amendment Bill wa3 carried by 44 to 15.
The House then went into Commitie of Supply to consider the Public Works Estimates. Wellington, Novembers. After the telegraph office closed, the Public Works Estimates were further considered, and passed without amendment at 2 85 a.m. The House rose until 2.80 p.m today.
