Valedictory.
A mo9t enjoyable social was tendered to Miss Hall, who has been connected with the Scarborough School for some years, and who has been transferred to Featlierstone, by the school committee and parents of the children attending the school on Monday evening last. During tho afternoon the past and present scholars entertained Miss Hall at afternoon tea and presented her with a suitably inscribed solid silver card case. They had tastefully decorated the interior of tho school with evergreens and a motto with tho word “ Farewell,” neatly worked with leaves, occupied the top wall of the class-room. Miss Selby in a neat little speech rnado the presentation on behalf of the scholars, and Miss Ilall feelingly responded. An excellent afternoon tea was provided and the school was thronged with a number of visitors. A most enjoyable time was spent. In the evening the school was filled with parents and friends. The chair was occupied by Mr McFarlane. Songs and recitations were given by the Misses Hall, Messrs Webb, Milne, Stanton, ; Boagey ami Ilornblow and a piano forte solo by Miss Hall, of Wood ville. The accompaniments were ably played by Miss Ilall and Mr W. Boagey. During tho evening Mr McFarlane on behalf of the paicuts and children presented Miss Hall with a dressing case containing silver-mounted brushes, etc. Mr Hall, on behalf of his daughter, briefly responded. Mo touched ou tho good feeling that had existed between his daughter and the scholars and parents. He congratulated the cominitteo on tho first-class school and progress the scholars had made, lie wished the school every success in the future. Refreshments wf:re ffaijdpa round and q, dapco indulged ip. The affair was brought to a clo w in tho small hours of the morning. The committee, consisting of Mesdawes Stanton, Robinson, ►Selby, llorton, Miss Burge, and Messrs Horton. Stanton* Ragle, and McFarlane, deserve great credit for tho manner in which the affair was carried out.
