Fate of British Gifts.
A letter signed “ W. 11. Whittall,” described as tho late head of an ambulance section with tho Boers, has been written from near Birmingham to Mr W T. Pitchors, a Godaiming gentleman, to explain the fata of a large number of presents sent oui to Major-General Baden-Powell by past ami present pupils of tho Charterhouse School in the Surrey town. When Zeerust was evaluated, Mr j Whittall writes, the Boors, on reI entering it, found a largo number of liros. nts ~ent out from England, which included cases of brandy, whisky, port wine, n,nd hospital comfort . The Boers converted tiiese to tin ir own use, and desired that tho Carthusians should bo thanked for tin ir kindness. The letter, by re- • quest, has been shown to the masters and officials of the Charterhouse School, and lias created much interest and somo atmisomem,.
