IN BANKRUPTCY.

Estate of M. P. Quirke. A in, oiling of creditors in of Mr M. P. Quirke was held in the Courthouse yesterday afterni on, the D.O.A. (Mr W. I>. Chennells) presiding. The bankrupt's written statement showed that lie commenced business iu 1894 with a capital of i £OO. On Bth January, 1897, he was J burnt out, having stock and fittings to the amount of about £2OO, besides I £'*o or £4O worth of book debts | which could not he recovered as the i hooks were lost, llis position at time of lire was —Liabilities £IBO ; and assets £75. Ills present position was Liabilities £l7O, assets Aloti 11s. Owing to dullness of trade he had not been able to improve his position. The action of Harris and Son of Christchurch in distraining ! compelled him to seek the protection of the Bankruptcy Court ,n the in- ; torests of Ins other creditors. The j bankrupt was examined by Mr 1 Chennells and said that until quite lately lie had paid all his money into the Bank. All his debts had* been 1 incurred in connection with his business. Had kept no other books 1 | than his hank book. Had only accounts to show the amount he : owed. At tile time of tile tire lbe stock was insured for £75 which was paid over to three of the creditors, who gave him fresh stock.
