“COMMERCIAL.”

STOCK KEPOBT. Mr Matthew Henry reports : The Pahiatua sale was held on the 28rd under very favorable circumstances, notwithstanding that the weather was threatening during the day. The entry of stock was not quite up to the advertised number, the yarding being chiefly confined to hoggets. There was a ready sale of all bar one pen of culls, and at prices in favour of sellers. The supplies at Palmorston were interfered with in consequence of repairs to the Fitzherbert bridge and ewes now dropping their lambs. The tone of the market was rather dull. The cold, frosty winds interfere greatly with the growth of grass, the shortage of which prevents buyers coming up to owners expectations. Subjoined are quotations Pahiatua.—Sheop: Hoggets, os Bd, 6s Id, 7s, 7s 8d to 7s 9d. Cattle : Dairy cows, 50s. Palmerston. — Cattle : 25s co £4 17s 6d. Sheep: Forward and fat ewes, 9s 7d; forward ewes, 8s ; hoggets, 7s.

WOOL AND SKIN SALES. Messrs Williams and Kettle report holding their periodical sale of wool, skins, hides and tallow to a fair attendance of buyers, when we offered 29 bales and 46 fudges, pockets and bags of wool, 1595 skins, 168 hides and 16 packages tallow. Bidding for wool and skins may be characterised as having a more animated tone than last sale, enabling a good clearance. Hides hung a little, and although last sale rates were realised for top lots, we do not look upon the sale in this department as good as last. Tallow remained about a level ruling at previous few sales. Only station packages offered. We realised the following prices:— Wool. —Inferior crossbred, chiefly stragglers’ fleece, from 4d to 4 ,d; crutclungs, from 1j d to for good ; dead wool, inferior, 4-,d. Skins.
