TERRIFIC HEAT IN AUSTRALIA.
By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.— Per I’ress Association. Sydney, December 29. The heat all oyer the Riveriua district is terrific. Sydney is comparatively cool, while Adelaide reports the thcrmomemeter at 110 in the shade, and several Victorian stations 115. Young and Old People Succumbing. Received yesterday at 10 p.m. Adelaide, December 30. The weather continues hot for five consecutive days. The thermometer has been over 100. A number of infants and children and old people have succumbed to its effects. Animals are suffering severely, and poultry is dying on all hands. The director of the Zoo states that he never saw animals so affbeted, and several valuable exhibits died to day, the majority only being kept alive by hosing with cold water.
