One oi the most striking features of of the railway celebration at Woodville on Saturday was Mr McPhaii’s landau and pair of dashing greys. It was difficult for people to believe that such a slashing turn-out hailed from Pahiatua. A Press Association telegram from Wellington says that there will be no enquiry into the accident to the excursion train on Saturday, the oflicials being satisfied it was caused by a rail spreading owing to undue expansion.Wo respectfully draw the attention of the Railway Depaitment to tho urgent necessity of appointing an additional porter at the Pahiatua railway station. We cannot say who is to blame for the sweating system under which tho present porter is working, hut in justice to him we emphatically state that the amount of work devolving upon one miln is sufficient to keep threo porters hard at work. At present six trains a day have to be attended to, and the amount of wool to be handled daily is sufficient to keep two porters engaged.
