THE CINEMATOGRAPHE.

Mr John Tait, well-known as a theatical agent throughout the whole of the colonies, arrived in Pahiatua on Wednesday last to make arrangements for the appearance here, at the Olympic Theatre on Monday next of the Cinematographe, which has met with such extraordinary success whereever shown. We would advise our readers who wish to see and enjoy a first-class evening’s entertainment not to miss this opportunity. The following is an extract from the Greymouth Star: —“ Marvel of marvels is the Cinematographe. No one should miss seeing this, the latest and greatest of all of Edison’s discoveries. Briefly explained, it means forty photographs per second ; 2500 per minute. So rapid are the changes that but one continuous picture is exhibited, showing the figures portrayed going through every motion with such realism as to cause a doubt as to whether the onlooker is viewing the actual scene or merely the photograph of same. The first picture represents Sandow, the strong man, stripped to the waist going through his daily exercises, every movement of the muscle and change in expression of the face being as clearly depicted as if Sandow was present ; the donkey's breakdown, the Highland fling by a dozen Scotchmen, tho Serpentine and Butterfly dance being thrown on to canvas showing j every movement; the beheading of | Mary Queen of Scots, a most ambitious subject; tile burning of Joan , of Arc; Broadway, New York, in which is seen the whole of tho traffic of that busy thoroughfare in motion, tramears passing each other, cabs expresses running and pedestrians crossing tho streets. Tho whole representation is so far removed from all one’s previous ideas of the possible as to incline us to merge the impossible in the possible. The I Coronation of the C/.ar of all the ' Russias is ono of the most interesting and marvellous subjects over exhibited. Wo cannot well say more. The show is unique and marvellous. No one who can raise a shilling should miss witnessing it, and parents should strain a point to lot their children see what has hitherto been doomed an impossible

accomplishment. So much do wo think of it that wo would kdvUs our school committees to endeavor to arrango with tho manager so that all children should sec the marvel of tho ago. Wo may add that many of tho pictures are very amusing. If you go you will do as we are doing, recommend your frionds to follow your lead 1 Wo are requested

to state that it is absolutely impossible for tho proprietors to extend their stay in l'ahiatua beyond Monday. Tho prices are nominal, being 2s and Is, amt we feel sure tho management will bo accorded a crowded house. The floors will open at 7.110, tho performance will com-

mence at 8 p.m,
