Knights of Labor Sports.

Third Annual Gathering. Committee. Messrs A. Reese, R. P- I Greville, W. Parkes, T. Keolian, > A. Baillio. Judges : Running Messrs G. Moore, Dr Gault and 3. Dawson ; Wrestling—Dr Gault and Mr E. The third annual sports gathering of tho P thiatna Knights of Labor look place on the Athletic Society’s ground on Boxing Day, in weather that must be described as perfect. Thore was ft large attendance of spectators notwithstanding the fact that race meetings were being held at Palmerston North and Masterton, and athletic gatherings at Eketahuna, Danevirke and Redding. The latter circumstance, however, affected the nominations, which were not so numerous as on previous occasions. Nevertheless the events were well-con-tested and some good finishes were seen. F. Wells appropriated the Boxing Day Handicap, securing first place in each of the three events, also winning the maiden race with apparent case. Crosbie and fashion secured second and third places •espectively in the Handicap, the tilled ivent of which resembled nothing more ban a funeral procession. The Hurdle Handicap furnished a fine race. All the lompetitors fenced admirably, and though the sticks weto considerably above the regulation height not one was touched, fhe winner turned up in G. Wells, M. Wood second and G. Yulo third. J. Smith, of Danevirl o, carried off the maiden wrestling, and tied in the vaulting, as well as securing second place in the mile walk, which latter event was won easily by May, who walked in fine style. McKenzie appropriated the mile handicap, J. Knight taking second money, and G. Coleman third. G. Yule won the Consolation Ilandicap. The Bicycle Handicap furnished the best race of the day, Cushion aud Crewe riding together almost abreast most of the distance. Crewe’s superior mastery of his machine gave him an advantage which lie was not slow to accept, and he landed a winner by a couple of yards. Messrs G. Moore, J. Dawson, R. Smith. \V.
