1 The Russian loan of fifteen and a half millions was over-subscribed, the greater portion of money coming from France. London, December 13. ! The Bank of New Zealand sharholders | in Great Britain have formed a committee to oppose the payment of the call recently made by the directors. Sir J. S. I). Thompson was suddenly seized with illness while at luncheon at Windsor Castle. Brandy was administered and the stimulant caused him to revive, but the improvement was only temporary, for he soon afterwards fell back and expired suddenly. It is thought the cause was heart disease. The Queen has not been informed of his death. An inquest will be held at Windsor Castle. Sir J. S. D. Thompson was Premier of Canada, and had just been sworn in as Privy Councillor. Received 1 a.m. London, December 13. The marriage of Prince Adolphus of Teck and Lady Margaret Grosvenor (daughter of the Duke of Westminster) takes place at Chester. The ceremony is to be of a brilliant character. It i* believed in financial circles in the city that a Tasmanian loan with a minimum of 99 or 100 will be issued at the end of the year. Medical men have certified that Thompson’s death was the result of syncope, and no inquest is necessary. The Queen was greatly grieved on hearing of his sad death. The Western Australian Goldfields Company, Limitod, shows a profit for six months of £47,000. The dividend was at the rate of 25 per cent for the year; L 25.000 was carried forward Ottawa, December 13. The news of Thompson's death caused a profound sensation throughout Canada. It is expected that Mr McKenzieBowell, Minister of Trade and Commerce, will be summoned by the GovernorGeneral to take charge of the Government. St. Johns, December 13. The Newfoundland Governmen has requested the Governor to provide interest on the public debt which falls due at the beginning of the year, otherwise the colony will have to make default. The Ministry has resigned. St Petersburg, December 13. Russian newspapers advocate placing Armenia under separate protection of the Great Powers. Received 10.15 a.m. Berlin, December 13. Herr Leibkneeht made a violent attack on the Kaiser in the Reichstag. He boldly inveighed against his policy and condemned his hypocrisy. The speech caused another scene. The Reichstag has refused the application to proseonte the Socialists for refusing to cheer the Kaiser. Rome, December 13. The Italian Government, has dismissed several magistrates for failing to execute the law in connection with the Lancia Roinana scandal.
