Dunedin, This Day. The Wakatipu hospital has been totally destroyed by fire. Mr Vine, ex-registrar of births in Dunedin, died last night. Later. All the occupants in tho Wakatipu hospital were removed safely to Queenstown. Incendiarism is suspected. The building is insured for £I6OO. Auckland, This Day. Thomas Edward Walton, clerk at the Auckland Racing Club’s office, was thrown last night from a young horse that he was riding and fractured his skull. He died the same evening. The Maori King, Mahuta, met the Premier at Hamilton and had a long interview. He stated he came personally to assure the Premier of his friendship towards the Government. He discussed with the Premier the Native Lands legislation of Inst session, and also brought several matters of inteiest to the natives under the Premier’s notice.
Wellington, This Day. For the convenience of applicants under the Cheap Money Act printed forms and envelopes will be distributed throughout the colony. Judging by the rush of applications at the head office, many of them being received before the Act finally passed, the Board will have to sit up night and day for the first month. Some 500 applications, averaging .£BOO each, are already received, and it is anticipated that the million now at the disposal of the Board will be all lent in the first six months. The minimum amount allowed by the Act is £25 and the maximum £2500 upon Crown leaseholds. The loan is restricted to half on the leases interest, and upon freehold to two-thirds the value.
Mr Tlios. Walters, son of the late proprietor of the London Times, was married to Miss Nellie Gore, daughter of Mr R. B. Gore, the Secretary to the Museum.
