The officials of tha Colonial Office give a guarded denial to the statement that Lord Braasev will succeed Lord Hopetoun. They say Lord Hopetoun’s successor Ims not yet been elected, and the appointment will he submitted to the Queen for consideration before it is made public. In a glove fight between “ Dummy ” Winters, tho Australian pugilist, and George Smith, the latter had his jaw fractured, the injuries being so severe that he died soon afterwards.
