The Japanese fear the Powers will prevent them enforcing an indemnity from China in the event of final success. Shanghai, October 7. A massacre of foreigners is feared here, and there is a panic among all classes. A large contingent is marching from Leaoting to oppose the advance of the Japanese. Marauding Chinese have terrorised the outlving country, and missionaries are taking refuge in Niuehang. Reports that the Japanese tleet has been sighted are alarming all the Chinese cities near the coast. London, October 7. The Chinese Government is seeking to limit the right of neutral ships to free navigation in the Corean waters, but Great Britain, France, Russia aud Italy have defined to aocede to the request. Shanohai, October 8. A steamer from Hamburg landed eight field guns and 4000 rifles at Taku. Received 0.40 a.m. Shanghai, Oetober 9. Li Hung Ohang has degraded his nephew Shiag, Governor of Tientsin, for corruption in purchasing 800,000 worthless rifles from the Germans. It is reported that Great Britain, France, Germany, and Russia have agreed as to a joiat action in China. Foreign ladies and children are quitting Pekin for Shanghai. The Chinese Government are said to bo engaging European officers in the naval service. Yokohama. Oetober 9. A report has been received hers that the Japanese troops have captured Chefoo. The rnaia body of the Japanese is encamped oa the north bank of Yalu river, end a battle with the Chinese is imminent,
