Mr Dowries, teller, left the Bank and returned at 10 o’eloek. On entering the bedroom at the back of the building he heard someone moving in the room. A masked man rushtd on him an*) attempted to smother him in u blanket. Mr Down evaded th> intruder and ran into toe .street and gave the. alarm. The polite and others soon arrived, hut the mail had decamped leaving behind him a dark lantern, mask, heavy bludgeon, hat and an empty bag. Mr Hogg, the manager of th Bunk, j sleeps at the hotel. lie left his room for a brief space of . time this morning and on his return | found that in hii ah ;, m his room bod been entered and the keys taken | from his pocket.
