The expression “ dumb dogs ’’ is likely to pass into a political phrase in much the same manner as the term “ right color.” To Sir Robert Stout is due tiiis latest addition to what may b called the Billingsgate of political phraseology. This is an unenviable notoriety and wo are sorry for Sir Jdobort. The dumb dogs that support the Seddon administration have bitten the senior member for Wellington very severely. Sir liobert Stout, Dr Newman and one or two others hoped to build up a third party in the Houst, and Sir Kobort set to work before the general election was twenty-four hours old, up to the first few days of the session, but failed in his purpose, failed hopelessly xtrul terribly. Whaiover political virtue attach'd to Sir Robert before, he has since lost, and he is as a politician discredit' d and lie is now a disappoin; 1 man, and hi rails and storms at those who have been the cause of his disappointment. ile has played his cards badly uiid has lost, and in his anger shows his true political character. Power and plac. ere the first principles of las political faith ; fads, fancies and flapdoodle his . i d ins. though he professes to be, ine Liberal Party will not tolerate him. Wiii he retire from politics ?
