Estate of John Cummings.

A meeting of creditors in the estate of John Cummings was held yesterday after noon, Mr W. B. Chennells Deputy (Official Assignee) presiding. I The debtor was examined by Mr G. H. Smith, solicitor for the Official Assignee. I\\ ith regard to the section at Tutaekara I tho debtor said ho did not know that Mr Stevens had been paying the rent; his family occupied it. He had never seen tho lease nor had he been asked to sign it. Ho had boon incurring these debts since 1890. Ho «mm from WoodvflW to Mangatainoka owing £B7. He incurred debts to the extent of £2B in Mangatainoka. lie had not paid for anything he got on credit there. He had incurred debts to the extent of £llfi in Tutaekara. Had not paid off any of the accounts. It was during one year and nine months that he ran up £ll6 in Tutaekara. lie did not explain his position to Mr. Bod min when he opeued the aceount. Mr Jones, of Fiketahuna did not ask him his position when he went iuto the store. He did t**ll Mr Jones that he had propertv iu the Maugaoue and Tutaekara. He had received a letter from the Lend Board Asking him to sign a lease lying ai Manga tninoka but had never signed it. He had signed a mortgage to Mr Stevens. He estimated that he had £3 a month. Some creditors made sworn statements. Mr Jones swore that tho debtor had made statements to him that he considered , satisfactory, and he gave him credit. Mr Harrell, of Mangatainoka. deposed that the debtor said lie would be able to 1 pay when lie procured credit. Mr W. Parkes i not sworn) said the debtor obtained boots from him by promising payment at the end of the ! month. The Deputy Official Assignee woe of | opinion that he should call the attentiou of the frown Prosecutor to the case.
