P&hi&tua v. Makuri.

The match between the Makuri loam and the first fifteen of the Pahiatua Club g came off in Bahiatua on Saturday and * after an even and enjoyable game resulted in a win for the visitors by one try to nil. The game was witnessed by a large number of spectators and wasooe of the most friendly contests ever a .messed in the Bush. Until towards the oloee of tho first spell the game was remarkably even, neither side having the slightest advantage. A few miauies before the call of half time Frank Berry got through the backs with a fast dribble aad drovs tbs ball over the line. A race for the leather ensued between the kicker and Wallace and the latter, instead of falling on it, took another kick at it, was passed by Berry and the Makuri player scored. The attempt to convert the try was not successful. Ths second spell was even more evenly contested than the first, and at different occasions each side had to defend its line. The whistle blew “ no side” without any further score. The Makuri team played a fine game notwithstanding their want of practise. There were no laggards amongst them, aod the pace was merry from start to finish. The Berry Bros. (“Joe” and “Frank”) F. Anderson, Broughton, Toxward, Ramsay, and Murphy especially distinguished themselves For the losers Cashion, Pope, Greville, Haskell, Wallace, Knight, and Lewis, were the pick of the ream. Mr Bailhe acted as referee and Messrs Vile and Mitchell as line umpires.

Dinner and Smoke Concert.

The visitors were entertained at the Commercial Hotel at dinner in the evening. After oalf-an hour's adjournment they returned to partioipale in the amusement provided for them w the ships of a smoke concert.

Woodville v. Pahiatua.

The above J unior Cup match took place at Woodville on Saturday, resulting in a win for Woodville by 22 points to nil. The play of the winning team was really first-class, and was far and away superior to the play of the Pahiatua team. The winners had the game in hand within five minutes from the start, and all the scores were ths result of good combined passing and running. One feature of the game was Troon’s splendid plaee kicking He proved himself to be equal to any in the Bush District in that department. It is ouly fair to the Pahiatua team to say that they were without the aerviecs of several of their best players who had stayed in Pahiatua to assist the first fifteen in its match against Makuri. It is impossible to individualise the play of the Woodville teaus as every player was good. The losers lacked combination, and were all suffering from the want of eondit.on. Mr Manns acted as referee aad gave every saiiefact'oa. his decisions being most impartial. Messrs Summerville and Dais acted as line umpires.

The following team will represent Pahiatua in the match ajains: Tutaekara cn Saturday next :— Knight, Lewis. Perry, Greville, King. Wallace (2*. Cashion. Broughton. Piper. Ross, Naylor. Vile. Hackett. Wood. Emergencies —For ward—C. Knight. MeCardle. Back— Skinner, Wells.

Every member of the above warn ie requested to put in as mneh training as possible during the present week as the task they will be required to perform ou next Saturday will be no light one. A run will tako place every evening during the week, starting al 7.30 from the Public Hall.

The Junior match. Tutaekara v. Ekelahuna. was won by default, the Eketahuna team not putt.ug in au appearance. Two of the team arrived to play but were greatly surprised at the rest of the team not turning up ; they joined in a practice wan the Tutaekara men who turned up strong with fifteen a side. The F.ketahuaa team pul the Tutaekara men to great inconvenience. as they had ordered tea, which they had to partake of by mtuselves.
