This uiatoh has been looked forward to with great interest for some time, and a large attendance of the general public in expected should the weather prove favorable. Seme of the visitors are wellknown as sterling players fr >m different parte of the inland, and from what I can gather the team is much stronger than that of last year. l'ahiatua will not he represented by its full strength, hut the team picked should render a good account of itself. I*iay starts punctually at 2.80. Mr Baillie will officiate as referee.
The |uuioi sup match, Pahiatua v. Woodvilie, will he played at the latter place to morrow. For the past two reasons there has been very little to choose between these teams, aud the game should be rather a lively one. Ido not expect the winners to have it all their own wav.
( notice that the Marlborough representative team have, in sketching out their proposed tour through this island, decided to play the Bush Union on Tuesday. 14th August. In all probability the match will be played in Pahiatua, it having the best and most central ground in the Bush.
It ie surely time some arrangements wer»* made in the direction of getting a match North v. South played iu view of picking the representative team. Certainly there should be a little more system adopted in pioking the team than existed last year, when, in my opinion, men were picked more on their reputation than their then present goodfiorm. There is a vacant Saturday between the last banner match and the date on which the reps meet, which I think would suit, and the Bush team eould bo pioked the same evening. I think if the game were played i.'t Pahiatua in aid of the Union, the funds of that body would be considerably augmented.
The positions of the various teams in regard to the senior championship is very unsettled. Pahiatua and Lketahuna are leading with five points each, Tutaekara next with four, while Woodvilie comes last with two to its credit Tutaekara has surprised everyone by suddenly coming mto prominence, and T am confident that they will not be far otT at the finish. They deserve credit for what they have done, considering the great disadvantages under which they labor. The matches on the -Ist inst., however, will probably throw some light on the question as to which club the senior championship will go to.
