McKenzie gave notice to more on going into Committee of Supply that electoral rights be granted to the women of the oolony. Replying to Mr Bell Mr Seddon said the Government were advised there was no necessity for the shareholders of the Bank of New Zealand passing a resolution instructing the Directors of the Bank to petition Parliament during the present session for leave to introduce a private Aot confirming the several provisions affecting the shareholders. Mr Bell moved the adjournment of the House, and held the colony should be absolutely safe and protected in this i matter, and if a private bill were intro- ' duced there would be no shadow of doubt in this respeet. Mr Seddon said the matter had been gone into most earefully by the Government, and they saw no necessity whatever for taking action of this kind. He had no objection to show Mr Bell or any other member the advice under which the Government had aoted in this matter. The House accepted this offer and no further debate took place. Mr Guinness was appointed Chairman ef Committees. Mr Geo. Hutchison moved that the House agree with the report of the Joint House Committee to the effect that the •ale of liquors be allowed in Bellamy's for the present session only. Sir Robert Stout submitted the resolution recently passed on the subjeet should have been carried out by the Joint House Committee. Mr Seddon said arrangements had been made by the steward of Bellamy's for the session. He thought it advisable to adopt the recommendation of the Joint Committee. which was carried by 34 to 23. The House rose at 5.30 p.m. The House resumed at 7.30 p.m. and went into Committee to consider the proposed new standing orders. The suggestions of the Standing Orders Committee were for the most part adopted.
