Football Notes.

B» “ Rcoar.”

Pahiatua v. Eketahuna.

Probably the most exciting snd interesting game played in the Bush this season was that between the senior teams of the above clubs, who met for the first time this season on Saturday, the contest taking place at Kketaliuna. The ground, which is noted for its roughneas'and mud. was, on account of the previous fine weather, iu fairly good order, although in places it was very s'icky. As was anticipated, the Pahiatua man were completely overweighed by their opponents, but it was soon seen that weight would not win the game, the combination of the visiting toam proving too much for them. There was little to choose between the two back divisions, and i?me exceptionally brilliant play was shown by both. From kick off to “ no Side ” the gams Mas fast and furious, constantly changing from one end of the field to the other, but neither side succeeded in crossing me much-coveted line—although at tunes the ball was within a few inches—and the game thus resulted m a draw. The play of our boys m the forward division was splendid, and the way they broke up their opponents in the scrums was grand. It would be extremely hard to iudiridlalise, but the play of Wallace, Kn.ghl, Roes, and McCordle calls for special mention, the former being very effective on the line out. Amongst the backs, I certainly think Woods p ayed the beet -ame on the ground. Vile. Caehion. Piper and Wallace also doing splendid work. I Tackett grafted hard but lacked the .lash Me usually displays. Greville at fall waa all that could be desired, his kicking and collaring being faultless Coming to the '.ketahuna forwards. Ho ban. Brodenck, and Anderson worked very hard, but the rest appeared to be p aying mere half than forward, and akirked the scrum* when they could. The backs are a wry -mart lot. and play with great judgment. Belling (21, Birney. Williams, and Pneet showed up particularly welt Mr C. Nicholson acted as referee ari appeared to give satisfaction.

The visitors were entertained at a dinner and smoke concert in the evening at Pelling« hotel, and a most pleasant time Mas -pent. The Pahiatua team arrived home shortly after midnight.

Speaking to l)i* toast of The Visitors at Eketahuu* on Saturday night. Mr Von Reden. President of the Fkeiahuna Football Club, said he was very pleased to see that his te.im had Inrcn ** taken down a peg or two." mainly because they nad made so sure of beating the visitors, and nad actually been speculating whether ihe score would e2oor 30 points ! No such things as morals nowadays.
