Twenty horses started. Florrie won by three parts of a length. The time was 2min 87sec. Wreckage of a Steamer Found Melbourne, May 26. The officers of the Glaucus report that the wreckage sighted off Gabo Island was the mainmast of a steamer of moderate size. No steamer is known to be missing, therefore the wreckage is surrounded by mystery. Important Decision. Brisbane, May 26. The Full Court has decided that the Crown having once granted the freehold of Crown land, it is not capable of leasing the land for mining purpurposes. Received 10.50 a.m. Duty on Fish. Melbourne, May 27. A largo deputation of fisherman waited on the Minister for Customs and asked him to impose an import duty on fish. The Minister promised to bring the matter before the Cabinet. Position of Parties. Melbourne, May 27.

The position of parties at present indicate the Ministry is in a minority of one. Mr Deakin has crossed over to the Opposition benches, while of the four bye-elections only one has so far declared for Government. Shipment of Poultry. Melbourne, May 27. The report on the trial shipment of poultry and rabbits to England show that while packing could scarcely have been better the freight expenses were very heavy, and it is feared no margin of profit will be left. The freight on each rabbit was 7Ad, while the shipment was disposed of at prices ranging Irom !)d to Is 2d.
