Pahiatua Public Buildings.
Post Office and Courthouse.
The plans of the new post offio and courthouse for Pahiatua are now to bu seen at the local post office. The plan f the courthouse shows a really jtala.ial building with a street frontage of HO feet. The man entrance is in the centre thtough a handsome portico into a wide haii, from each end of which - oacious corridors run down the buildmg. Opposite the entrance door is a door leading into the courtroom, which is a very spacious room iuded. and which will he fitted ina very convenient manner, with justices' bench, clerk's Ih>x, dock, tables, jury form*, witness' box. etc. i *oors in one of the corridors open into the b.M. i room and the clerk's room, in the 1 latter of which will be a strong room T&c other corridor gives entrance to lawyers' room, witnesses’ room, and office of the stock department. The arrange-mt-nts throughout profhise a building at once ornate and convenient. Mr Geo. C. Stev.-nson is the architect.
The post office pan also shows a handsome building with a frontage to Main-street. Av, randah in the front runs partly round the building, tbs general intranet being at the comer. The private box looby is situated at the end of the verandah, awav from the public lobby. The delivers counter is to be six feet in width. The mail room is large and convenient, its dimensions being 44 feet 3 inches by 21 feet. The postmaster's room. 14ft x 10ft. is situated at the end of the verandah. A telephone room. 10ft x 10ft. is situated at out ,nd of the mail room. The public office is lhft by 10ft, and the posting boxes are at one end of the verandah. The mail room is well lighted w uh six windows. The frontage to Main street is 44ft and to King-street 2>fi. Mr B. B. McGregor is the architect for the post office. Tenders for both buildings close on dune Tib. The post office is to be completed within ten weeks, and t* courthouse within twelve weeks from the date of acceptance of Waders.
