The late Rev Dr O’Dowd, who died recently in Ballarat West, and whose numerous private acts of charity endeared him to Roman Catholics and Protestants alike, possessed less than ‘2s (3d at the timo of his death. For a long while past Father O’Dowd, who was a classical \scholar of high order, had been paying house rent for several poor families in Ballarat, and his purchases of provisions for other indigent people was the means of having him almost penniless.
